House Bill 1318 and upcoming media article

Hi everyone! I hope this message finds you well.
There has been activity at the Indiana Statehouse, for which I provided testimony last week for two bills. One was for the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund, HB 1318. Last year, the legislators funded this new bill with a $10 increase on motorcycle registrations. This was not the original funding that the Research Fund Action Committee had requested. However, it was a start. We knew that this year, it would be a challenge to keep the funding alive.
I was priviledged to testify before the House and Senate commitees in support of a 30 cent registration fee on all private passenger, light trucks (non-commercial), and motorcycles for HB 1318. This fee would give us about the same funding amount as the motorcycle fee collected last year. It passed out of both chambers but some amendments were made that will need to be approved in the House before it is sent to the governor for his signature to make it law. We are hopeful that this will take place before this legislature session ends.
The other bill is Senate Bill 81, which would prohibit municipalities from charging a fee for police to respond to an accident or crash. This is a form of double taxation, not to mention that we already pay for public police services with our tax dollars.
Last week, I was also excited to have been interviewed for an upcoming article in the entertainment weekly magazine IndyStar, found FREE in most grocery stores, some retail establishments, etc. This article will be in the March 13, 2008, edition and highlights people who are "lucky", i.e. getting holes in one at the golf course, still alive after hit by lightning, surviving car crash, etc. While I don't consider myself lucky and attribute my survival and recovery to God's grace, I shared that with the news reporter. I'm not sure what will be printed, but I feel honored that the Indianapolis Star contacted me to participate in the story.
Stay tuned for more exciting upcoming events in the next few weeks and month. Until then, may God bless you and keep you well.
Warm regards,
Darcy
